George F. Porter (July 26, 1881–February 23, 1927). Artist, patron of the arts, and minor railroad magnate. Son of Henry H. Porter, Chicago railroad pioneer and owner and steel company founder; brother of Henry H. Porter, Jr. George would have been approximately five years old in Johnson’s portrait.
