Johnson’s portraits of children and adolescents were often part of a larger commission to paint whole families. In some instances, the children had died and their parents wished to have a reminder of their loved ones. —PH
MacGibeny, 2021: Portrayed as a child by Johnson, Helen Fahnestock later married John Hubbard, whose father Thomas Hamlin Hubbard (1838–1915), a Civil War Union general, lawyer, and railroad executive, and grandfather John Hubbard (1794–1869), who was Governor of Maine 1850-1853, also were portrayed by Johnson.
Helen Fahnestock Campbell Hubbard (1872–1955). Wife of C. G. Campbell, then John Hubbard (not Governor John Hubbard of Maine, portrayed by Johnson). Her obituary in The Living Church states that one of her surviving grandchildren was Mrs. Robert Hare.
