MacGibeny, 2022: Owner Albert Rosenthal's inscription "E. Leutze" seems likely to refer to German American artist Emanuel Leutze, who had a moustache. Johnson worked in Leutze's studio and portrayed his son Eugene Leutze in Düsseldorf. See the linked image of his carte-de-visite for his likeness.
Emanuel Leutze (1816–1868). German-American history painter; Düsseldorf Academy student and private instructor in whose studio Johnson worked on Leutze's Washington Crossing the Delaware in 1851.
