The identities of the men in these portraits have not yet been confirmed. However, the paintings are known or believed to have been done in the United States based on factors including their style, inscribed dates, and the appearance of the sitters when images are available. Description / Remarks

MacGibeny, 2021: It is possible that this painting could be a portrait of Johnson's father, Philip Carrigan Johnson (1795–1859). However, its exhibition date of 1868 suggests that it may have been made after his death, and currently there is no evidence to confirm the sitter's identity.
